HISTORY OF REFUGE CHURCH
In June 1984, while Charles Langley was serving under the late Pastor Aaron Williams of Emmanuel Full Gospel COGIC, he was called by God to the assignment of pastorship. Refuge Church Of God In Christ was started with his wife Carla Langley, Mother Catherine Langley and four young daughters. In the formative years, Pastor Langley held services in the home of the late Mother Catherine Langley with his wife serving as choir director and four young daughters comprising the Angels of Refuge choir.
Until April 1988, Refuge Church had two temporary locations at the Blair Christian Academy in West Philadelphia and the 4800 block of Old York Road in the Logan section of Philadelphia. At which time, God blessed them to purchase their current church building on the corner of 25th & York Streets in North Philadelphia where we reside today. Throughout the years, the Lord has continued blessing and adding to the Langley family with the birth of a son Charles Steven Langley Jr. and and another daughter Ashia Langley.
In March 2005, founding member Mother Catherine Langley and in September 2015, Deacon Danny Smith pillars of our church transitioned from labor to reward. However, their diligent work and commitment will forever live on in our memory.
Today, our services are held every Saturday morning at 10:30am where we gather to praise and worship the Lord. As Pastor Langley continues to lead and encourage the body to seek and pursue an intimate relationship with the Lord.
As we celebrate another year, we thank God for his guidance and protection every step of the way. Yet earnestly looking forward with great expectation to all of the precious promises he has in store for us.
